Introduction

The VAT Registration Certificate Oman OCR API provides a structured way to extract information from a Value Added Tax (VAT) Registration Certificate issued by the Tax Authority of the Sultanate of Oman. The API accepts a URL of a VAT certificate (image or PDF) as input and returns the parsed certificate fields as a structured JSON response wrapped in an event envelope.

The VAT Registration Certificate is a bilingual (English / Arabic) document issued by the Tax Authority (جهاز الضرائب) that certifies a registered entity as a VAT-registered taxpayer in the Sultanate of Oman. It contains the certificate number, issue date in both Hijri (AH) and Gregorian calendars, the linked Commercial Registration (CR) number, the registered entity's name, the VAT Identification Number (VATIN) in the format AOnnnnnnnnn, the effective date of registration, the validity end date, and the structured registration address.

This API enables seamless integration into KYB (Know Your Business), merchant onboarding, tax-compliance, and corporate-customer verification workflows, eliminating the need for manual data entry from VAT certificates. The structured output preserves the original field semantics of the certificate, including a parsed address broken down into its constituent components (governorate, wilayat, way number, building number, postal code, P.O. Box), making it suitable for direct mapping into KYB systems, tax-master records, CRMs, and compliance archives.

Customers (banks, NBFCs, fintechs, lenders, insurers, payment aggregators, accounting platforms, marketplaces operating in Oman or transacting with Omani entities) routinely collect VAT certificates to verify the tax-registration status of merchants and corporate counterparties. They are required to validate the certificate, capture the VATIN against the merchant record for tax-invoicing purposes, and store the extracted data in downstream KYB and finance systems. Doing the extraction manually is operationally infeasible at onboarding scale, and the embedded narrative-style address paragraph on the certificate is particularly error-prone to transcribe. Generic OCR tools cannot reliably parse the address into its structured components.

The product gap is a single, deterministic, audit-friendly API that takes a VAT Registration Certificate URL and returns a structured JSON of all printed fields.
