Document Deepfake Detection

Introduction

Submit an Indian ID document image and receive a boolean verdict indicating whether the image is synthetic or AI-generated. The API detects both AI-manipulated Indian ID images (deepfakes) and fully AI-generated Indian ID images.

Each submission is evaluated using two independent detection engines, and the API returns a single verdict based on the stronger detection signal. Currently, the API supports Indian IDs only.

Image Quality Guidance

Detection accuracy can degrade significantly when ID images are heavily compressed, low-resolution, resized, or cropped. Wherever possible:

Submit the original captured ID image rather than a re-encoded thumbnail, screenshot, or compressed copy.

Avoid re-compressing the image before submitting it to the API.

Avoid images that have been cropped to a small face region and then upscaled, as this can affect detection accuracy.

Avoid adding synthetic or computer-generated watermarks, headers, or footers to the ID image before submission.

Ensure that the ID image is clear, sufficiently detailed, and contains the relevant document regions required for analysis.

Points to Note

Interpretation: A value of deepfake: true indicates a detection signal and does not confirm a fraudulent outcome. Treat it as a trigger for manual review or escalation within your workflow.

Metrics: Our model is benchmarked internally and has been found to have a False Acceptance Rate (FAR) of 6.95% and a False Rejection Rate (FRR) of 0.10%.

Latency: The expected p95 response time is 3secs to 5secs.

The recommended file size limit is 12 MB.

Recommended Use

This API is recommended for scenarios where captured images of Indian IDs need to be validated to determine whether they are AI-generated or authentic.

Currently, the API supports only Indian IDs.

Not a Document Liveness Check API

This API is not a Document Liveness Check API. Presentation attacks and spoofing detection are outside the scope of this endpoint. The following types of inputs may return either true or false, and neither result should be interpreted as a liveness outcome:

A photograph or video frame of an Indian ID replayed from a screen or monitor.

A printed photograph of an Indian ID that is re-captured using a camera.

A cut-out, photocopy, or similar spoofing artifact of an Indian ID.

A screenshot or scanned copy of an existing Indian ID image.

The API is intended to assess whether the submitted Indian ID image shows AI-generated/manipulated content, and the response should not be treated as an indication of whether the physical document or its capture is live or genuine.
